A fresh take on traditional leather craft - a mindful, sustainable approach that celebrates the individual
Our main mission at MY OH MY is promoting conscious, sustainable consumerism, which we believe one can achieve by buying fewer, buying better and wearing longer. This is why we are dedicated towards designing and handcrafting high-quality, multi-functional, customizable, timeless leather products designed with environment in mind and built to last.
Ethically handcrafted from the finest materials
We painstakingly handpick the finest leathers from environmentally-conscious European tanneries and suppliers, and meticulously craft each bag and accessory by hand with an attention to detail that ensures every piece is well made and long lasting.
Focusing on quality over quantity
Due to the slower production process, only limited numbers of MY OH MY leather products are handcrafted every year with each piece being special and truly original. We go to every length to deliver a leather good of uncompromised quality. Each made-to-order item features the finest leathers, most durable hardware, and meticulous construction ethically performed in our atelier.
Born to Stand Out
In order to preserve the uniqueness of our products, each item and combination is either a one-off or part of a limited edition, this way making sure that your bag is truly one of a kind and second to none.
Perfect is Landfill-Free
With sustainability and minimal waste policy in mind, almost all of our products are made to order, except for the smaller leather products, which are manufactured from bits and pieces of leather that we are left behind with during bag manufacturing, this way making the most of our materials. Rather than stocking the workshop with hundreds of leathers, the company orders skins to cover only the needs for each individual order. There are no surplus materials or finished stock that we have to dispose of if they are not sold, no wastage of seasonal fast fashion, there’s nothing thrown into a landfill.
The MY OH MY Ethos
We believe that what equals sustainable fashion is: ethics, aesthetics, quality, multi-functionality and versatility. Because process matters, quality matters and our Mother Earth matters.
Meet the Designer
MY OH MY bags and accessories are skillfully designed and handcrafted by Anikó Csúszó, a Hungarian leather artisan, currently based in Zagreb, Croatia. After training as a professional interpreter/translator but working on creative ventures in any spare time, Anikó decided to pursue her dream of a creative path, and in 2012 she embarked on a bumpy but never boring career-changing journey.
“The idea for MY OH MY was originally founded in the midst of Berlin’s creative flair and free-wheeling spirit, where I lived and worked at the time, in a response to the throw-away fashion culture and need for more locally made, high quality products. It took almost ten years of mastering the ropes of the craft and process of designing, working next to some of the most accomplished German and British craftsmen and artisans, and building countless prototypes for it to reach its today's shape and to be what I proudly call an ethical, sustainable, slow-fashion brand that celebrates the individual. MY OH MY is about encouraging more conscious buying decisions, investing in quality over quantity – buying fewer, buying better – and supporting local artisan craft and tanneries.” A. Cs
The story behind the boxing gloves
“My fascination with natural materials, especially leather, revealed itself already in my early years. I remember as a child mucking about in the attic and digging through the old belongings of my grandpa, who happened to be a passionate practicer of amateur boxing, and coming across his old, hand stitched leather boxing gloves. I can still recall how mesmerized I felt by its texture, the smell and the mere feel of leather. I can still evoke its every single stitch and groove. If I need to single out a moment, I think my love towards this natural material was born right then and there, and this is how grandpa’s old boxing gloves have become a part of the brand itself.” A. It’s in the details
“The material itself, being an organic one, is very fascinating as each hide has its own story. It bears scars and other marks that reflect the animal’s life, and this way adds character to the product, making each item one of a kind. Also, a natural product will continue to improve over time.” A. Cs.
“I find the process of handcrafting very meditating, it makes me get lost in each movement, making me completely forget about the outside world. Among the various steps, my favorite one is stitching, which also requires the most concentration. The moment when one product is finished, I get to see how it has transformed from the original skin into a final, finished product. As I spend long days designing and manufacturing a bag, by the time it is finished, it feels as if it has developed an identity of its own, it grows close to you, and sometimes I almost feel reluctant to pass it to the customer. 😊” A.
